Surgery Services

Whether it’s an emergency surgery or an elective procedure, we are here to meet your pet’s surgical needs.

Surgery at SPORTSVET: What you can expect

When a surgical procedure is recommended for your pet, we want you to feel totally comfortable moving forward. Your pet’s Doctor and Veterinary Technicians will answer any questions you have about the surgery itself as well as aftercare. Once surgery is scheduled we will go over the details of how to prepare for surgery. In most cases, your pet will need to be fasted (prevented from eating or drinking anything) after midnight the night before his/her scheduled surgery. It is important to arrive on time for your pet’s scheduled surgical drop-off. Please plan on spending 10-15 minutes going over some important paperwork including surgical consent and estimate. We will also answer any last minute questions you may have. We require a 50% deposit at check-in with the remainder of your balance due when you pick-up.

We understand the concerns you may have about your pet undergoing surgery and we want to help put your mind at ease. We take our anesthetic protocol very seriously at SportsVet. We do everything in our power to minimize anesthetic risk and keep your pet safe. A safe and positive outcome is our number one priority. Prior to any surgery we recommend doing a comprehensive panel of blood work to help us evaluate your pet’s overall health. Knowing any additional risks allows us to better tailor your pet’s anesthesia to his/her medical needs. We use the safest anesthetic medications and equipment available. Our patients are monitored at all times by Certified Veterinary Technicians under the close supervision of the Doctor performing your pet’s procedure. While under anesthesia, state of the art monitoring equipment allows us to know exactly how your pet is doing and to make any necessary changes to keep your pet safe.

Every patient has an intravenous catheter placed and has IV fluids administered to help maintain appropriate blood pressure and hydration. Your pet will also receive important medications during surgery through his/her IV catheter. Care is taken to make sure your pet maintains a safe body temperature throughout the procedure and during recovery. After surgery your pet is cared for with the diligent supervision and hands-on attention you expect. Every patient receives pain management medications along with calming techniques, all designed to promote rapid healing and a state of positive well-being as he/she recovers from surgery.
