Canine Rehabilitation

Benefits of Canine Rehabilitation

Physical therapy can help reduce pain in your pet while decreasing the need for anti-inflammatory medication. Animals can now recover from injuries that were once career ending with the use of physical therapy and, in some cases, advanced surgical techniques. These treatments can help improve your pet’s performance in athletic events, and a sport-specific conditioning program can be designed specifically for your competitive animal.

Therapeutic Treatments for Pets

A variety of therapy options are available at SPORTSVET, using sound medical principles and therapeutic techniques to achieve desired outcomes. Home exercise programs are an integral component of every pet’s rehabilitation process. These will be designed for you to perform at home after receiving proper instruction.

Many of our rehabilitation patients benefit from laser therapy treatment. Laser therapy is safe, painless, and fast, using the body’s own healing powers by stimulating cellular activity. This therapeutic treatment reduces inflammation and pain and is effective in treating chronic conditions and acute and post-operative pain. Visit the Companion Laser Therapy website for answers to the most common questions from pet owners regarding this amazing treatment modality.

The underwater treadmill is our most utilized rehabilitation device. Animals are able to build strength and endurance while reducing joint stress due to the buoyancy provided by the water.

Sports Medicine & More

Some of our popular programs include:

  • Weight management—Maintaining proper weight is crucial for happier, healthier pets that live longer, more productive lives. In this program, patients are weighed, body condition is scored, and results are closely monitored. Owners are educated in the proper diet, supplements, exercise, and treats.
  • Sports conditioning—This program is useful for a wide variety of athletic dogs. Our conditioning programs are tailored to each pet and designed to improve strength, endurance, balance, and coordination in order to improve performance and reduce risk of injury.

The professionals at SPORTSVET offer pre- and post-operative conditioning and rehabilitation, as well as off-season conditioning program for athletes. We are dedicated to enhancing your pet’s life by helping him or her achieve optimal function and maximize performance. It doesn’t matter if your pet is a sedentary house pet or a high-performance athlete. We treat each dog on an individual basis using sound medical principles.

SportsVet Animal Medical Center was the best vet I have ever had. I live in Minneapolis now and not only are all of the vets very expensive, they do not really seem to care in the same way Dr. Jacobs did.

Nadine Frances Mercil

I’ve never seen a vet be so caring and compassionate to not only the animals, but the animals owners as well. We think so highly of Dr. Jacobs and his staff that we travel and hour and a half for all our vet needs.

Keri Robinson

SportsVet Animal Medical Center performed TPLO surgery on our 7 year old flat-coat retriever. We were very pleased with her care, Dr. Jacobs and his staff could not have been more thorough, professional, and friendly.

Vickie Hart

Thank you so much, Dr. Jacobs and staff, for helping little Duke regain use of his left leg (he suffered a grade 4 patellar luxation). We so appreciate your kind care, surgical skill and postop therapy.

Lila & Barry McCammon

Dr. Jacobs and his staff are AMAZING. Every time I called, which was often (multiple times a week), they were happy to speak with me. They even sent me video of her during her underwater treadmill therapy. 4.5 years later, while some of her other joints struggle, her knee is perfect.

Callie Cozzolino

Dixie had her TPLO surgery on Jan. 10th and went for her first water therapy yesterday. She is doing great. Getting stronger and using her leg more everyday. Everyone at SportsVet is soooo supportive and caring. Thank you again so much!!!!
